Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana, the browner the better
- 2 cups oat flour, plus a little for rolling
- 1 egg
Method
- Heat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Mash the banana in a bowl until it is nearly liquid. Beat in the egg.
- Stir in the oat flour until a soft dough forms. Rest it for 5 minutes so the flour drinks up the moisture.
- Roll to about a quarter inch thick and cut into shapes. The dough is soft, so flour the cutter as you go.
- Bake for 20 to 24 minutes until golden and firm. Cool on a rack.

Active Time
Every kitchen produces one banana too ripe for people and perfect for this. Banana brings the sweetness and the binding, oats bring the body, and the result is a biscuit dogs can smell from the next room.
Ripe matters here. A yellow banana works, but a brown speckled one mashes smoother and tastes sweeter, which means the recipe needs nothing else at all.
Storage
- On the counter in an airtight tin: up to 5 days
- In the fridge: up to 2 weeks
- In the freezer: up to 3 months
Banana keeps these a touch softer than a plain biscuit, so the fridge is the safer home after the first few days.
Serving by dog size
- Small dogs: 1 treat a day
- Medium dogs: up to 2 treats a day
- Large dogs: up to 3 treats a day
Fruit sugar is still sugar. Keep these in the treat budget, inside 10 percent of daily calories.
