Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats, plus a little extra for rolling
- 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (no xylitol, ever)
- 1/2 cup plain pumpkin puree (never pumpkin pie mix)
Method
- Stir the peanut butter and pumpkin puree together until smooth and even.
- Fold in the rolled oats until everything is coated and the mix holds together when pressed.
- Roll into balls about the size of a walnut for a medium dog, smaller for small dogs. Roll each ball in the extra oats if you like the finished look.
- Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour until firm. For a firmer, longer lasting treat, freeze them solid instead.

Active Time
Some days the oven is busy, the kitchen is hot, or the dog has been good RIGHT NOW and deserves evidence. These are the treats for all three days. Ten minutes of stirring and rolling, one hour of chilling, done.
The mix should feel like stiff cookie dough. Too wet, add oats a spoon at a time. Too crumbly, add pumpkin the same way. Every brand of peanut butter pours a little differently, and the recipe forgives all of it.
Storage
There is no baking to protect these, so the cold does all the work.
- In the fridge in an airtight container: up to 1 week
- In the freezer: up to 3 months, and they can be served still frozen on a warm day
Serving by dog size
- Small dogs: half a ball
- Medium dogs: 1 ball
- Large dogs: up to 2 balls
Peanut butter is rich, so count these honestly inside the 10 percent treat rule.
